Description

If you're bored with the selection of vehicles that TTD has to offer, this switch is right for you! It allows the use of new graphics files to modify the existing vehicles. You can have new trains, ships, planes and road vehicles.

For a list of available graphics sets, please go to the TTDPatch New Graphics page.

Each of these switches enables new graphics for that particular vehicle type, except for "loadallgraphics", which makes TTD loads all new graphics into existing savegames. Normally, only those graphics are loaded that were active when the game was saved.

Changes to Vehicle Characteristics

This section describes changes introduced by TTDPatch 2.0.1 alpha 28. Disregard it for earlier patch versions.

New vehicle sets add several vehicle properties that aren't present in plain TTD. See this screenshot for an example:

Railstat.png

The new entries are:

  • Max. Tractive Effort (here 222kN)
  • Powered Wagons (here +2720hp, +50t)
  • Refittability

Max. Tractive Effort

Max. tractive effort (TE) refers to the maximum force the train engine can exert on the rails, that is, the maximum propulsive force. The more tractive effort an engine has, the heavier a train it can pull.

Typically, passenger trains will use an engine with a high top speed but relatively low tractive effort, whereas freight trains (especially with the freight trains switch) need a high TE engine, which will usually have a slightly smaller top speed.

Powered Wagons

Some engines may have powered wagons. This means that the train power comes not only from the engine, but also from (some of) the wagons.

In the example, a full-length ICE3 has four powered units, the engine plus three powered wagons. The rest of the wagons are unpowered.

The powered wagons add the given amount of power (here +2720hp) to the train, as well as being somewhat heavier than unpowered wagons (here 50t). Note that not all wagon types will be powered, the ICE3 for example only has powered passenger and mail wagons.

Refittability

Both train engines and wagons may be refittable. This is indicated by the "(refittable)" after the cargo capacity. What cargo types an engine or a wagon is refittable to depends on the wagon type. You should refer to the documentation that came with the graphics set to find out which wagons can be used for which cargo types.

Note that you can only refit a whole train. When you click the "refit" button of a train, you get a choice of all cargo types that any of the wagons in it can carry. When you actually refit the train, any and all wagons that can carry this new cargo type will be refit to it.

If you want to refit a train to carry two different cargo types, you may have to do it by refitting the wagons separately. For example, to make a train carry both livestock and grain, attach only the wagons for livestock to the train and refit those. Then, detach the livestock wagons and attach the wagons to carry grain. Refit those, and then add the livestock wagons again.
