General data

Iron ore mines produce iron ore. If ore is not transported, Iron ore mine produces 5-10 tons of iron ore. In the other cases production depends on production level, represented as the number (up to 128 that is equal to ultimate production level), multiplied by 4 when no machinery waiting, by 12 when at least 1 machinery unit waiting, by 8 when machinery is undefined (only possible when other file overrides machinery).

This way iron ore mine supports smooth production level.

8 units of machinery are processed during a month on the highest production level. With every level below, the amount of processed machinery units is halved (up to 1 machinery during 4 months on the lowest production level). iron ore mine can't be built by the player.

Material amount

Every Iron ore mine has fixed amount of iron ore, that can be harvested. This amount is random between 100Kt and 600kt and is selected during construction.

The amount of total iron ore is unknown for the player. It sees only a part of it (10-30% at the beginning). When amount of ore transport is above 75% a month, new bed of ore can be found, increasing amount of ore known. Increasing affects amount of iron ore known from +10% to +30%, but may not be larger than amount of ore total.

Production change

Changing production level depends on the amount of cargo transported. If less than 60% of produced cargo is transported, production goes down, while if more than 97% is transported, it goes up.

For values 60% - 75% and 75% - 95% smooth production change is applied that means production level is changed as number (+1 and -1 accordantly). Currently it works in OTTD only.

When all the known ore is harvested, iron ore mine closes immediately.

When Iron ore mine is not in service, it has 1% close down probability every month if it is at least 10 years old.

Stockpile size

Cargo acceptance is limited by storage capacity. If the stockpile is in overflow, the industry stops accepting cargo until the stockpile is down to 50% of capacity, at which point the industry will start accepting cargo again.

Possible locations

Iron ore mines can not be built on flat land far from towns (Rz0 + 6 < Ed). They can't be built near other iron ore mines, steel mills.
